Before you make any exterior changes to your home, you must first apply to obtain a building permit from the Apple Valley Property Owners Association and a zoning permit from your township (Howard Township or Brown Township). AVPOA and Township rules and regulations must be followed to avoid fines and/or penalties.
Howard Township Permits - Attention Contractors and Residents -
Howard Township is a zoned township, therefore requires prior approval and a permit prior to building or construction. Projects requiring prior approval include, but are not limited to: new home construction, garages, additions, decks, new driveways, or adding concrete or blacktop to existing driveways. It is the sole responsibility of the property owner to contact the Howard Township Zoning Inspector, Bill Gordon (485-0202) at the Howard Township Office to submit an application for approval. Anyone failing to do so is in direct violation of Howard Township Zoning Resolution and may be subject to fines and/or penalties.
Regarding Culverts - Due to Knox County Storm Water Management requirements, Howard Township will institute the following: A culvert approved by Howard Township must be installed before a building permit is issued. If at any time during construction a culvert is damaged inoperable, a stop work order will be issued until rectified.
Brown Township Permits contact Zoning Inspector: Vic Turner (397-3302) by appointment only.
